The different vitamins complement each other to guarantee our good health. They are provided by food, food supplements or medication.

Vitamins are organic substances that the human body needs for the proper functioning of the organism. They bring many benefits especially in the assimilation and use of nutrients. There are different kinds of vitamins, each with specific functions.

Vitamins, from A to Z

Vitamin A or Retinol promotes cell reproduction. Its main function is the synthesis of certain hormones and the stimulation of immunity. It also contributes to bone and dental growth, healthy hair and skin. This vitamin is mainly found in fruits and vegetables and in foods of animal origin such as butter, eggs and milk.

The water-soluble vitamins, namely vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B8, B9, B12 and C are coenzymes which are involved in particular in metabolism, the synthesis of red blood cells, the proper functioning of the heart, the nervous system and muscles. They are present in fruits and vegetables, foods of animal origin and in the leaves of plants.

Vitamin D strengthens bones and allows the body to absorb calcium as well as magnesium. It is found in fatty fish such as herring and sardines. An effective way to synthesize it is to expose yourself to the sun for a few minutes, preferably in the morning.

Vitamin E protects cells from oxidative damage thanks to its antioxidant property. It is present in almonds, hazelnuts, apricots and eggs.

Vitamin K1 plays a fundamental role in blood clotting. Dark green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach contain considerable amounts. Vitamin K2 takes part in bone mineralization. It is found in organ meats and fermented milk products.

The benefits of vitamins

Vitamins are important for health, each providing its essential nutrients to the body. They are essential to fight against a lack of carbohydrates, lipids or proteins. A deficiency in these substances can lead to serious illnesses, physical fatigue, skin problems or abnormal hair loss.

The National Nutrition and Health study showed that only 42% of adults and less than 20% of children consumed at least five fruits and vegetables per day. The institute also reveals that 77% of women did not have sufficient calcium intake. It is therefore important to adopt a varied and balanced diet to provide the necessary quantity of substances that the body needs.
